Women’s Renew Internal Cleanse Update

I know, I know….it has taken forever for me to update on how this product works.  I wish I had a fantastic excuse….aliens beamed me up and I have been flying around the universe.  My gypsy soul kicked back in and I have been traveling the world.  My dog ate my homework.

But alas, this is not the case.  I am a slacker of the worst kind.  Bummer!

Oh well, slacker or no here are the “dirty” details:

In addition to the cleanse I went to semi-raw diet. This was actually very enjoyable.  I will be doing an all raw diet soon.

I drank a ton of water.

Day 1:  I took one capsule of Prima Cleanse Fiber before I went to bed.

Day 2:  I took two capsules of Prima Cleanse, Herbal Guard and Women’s Renew at breakfast and dinner.

By the end of the day it was doing it’s job.

Day 3:  I was hurting.  I was crampy and unhappy.  So I lowered the number to one of each.  Needless to say, the product was working but not the way I wanted it to.

Day 4:  I lowered to 1 of each for breakfast and dinner.  The cramping lasted a final day but then subsided.

I followed the day4 formula for the rest of the month.

I lost 5 pounds and felt amazing! This product works just as it says.

Would I recommend it?  Yes and no.

Here are a few things to note:

  • The pills are rather large.  So they are difficult to swallow.
  • You take them with food so eat a small amount of food.  The ingredients in the capsules are very filling.
  • The herbs made me feel a little nauseous.  I am not sure if it was the herbs themselves or if it was how full that I felt.
  • The product works.  You have to play around with the dosage to find the right mixture for you but it does it’s job(sometimes a little too well).

I hope that my experience with this product can help anyone who has been on the fence about trying it.

Yours in flat bellied goodness!

The Art of Tai Chi

m Tai chi The Art of Tai ChiI entered massage school in January of 2002.  For the first three months, we all gave and received Swedish massage.  We also did a short Tai Chi video in the mornings.  During those three months, we all floated through our days happy to be together learning this amazing work.  We left Swedish and Tai Chi behind on month four.  From that point our tranquility was gone replaced with bitter fighting and aggravation.  There is something to be said for quieting one’s mind and stirring positive energy.  Too often we get caught up in the crazy bustle of our days a never ending fast paced life.  We don’t get to “just be.”

So how can you slow it down and make time for you?  How can you give your mind the rest that it so desperately needs?  We need to maintain balance and allow for growth spiritually and physically in our own lives.  We need Tai Chi.

Tai Chi is a series of movements with emphasis on breathing, inner control and Shao-lin martial sets.  It is a moving meditation that requires the inner talking to stop and listening to begin.  Tai Chi is action without force.  The energy may not appear forceful but is powerful.  You move slowly feeling the action in you limbs and joints.

Each Tai Chi step leads into the next without any hesitation with full, smooth movements.  Body motions are focused around the spinal column and joints are pivotal points.  The weight falls down through the body.  Imagine that the body is like a coiled spring, absorbing the shock, shooting it and then releasing it again.  The breath is pulled into the body from below and then moved into all parts of your body.  This is called breathing from the earth.

The benefits are numerous if you practice regularly.  You feel a greater strength throughout the body.  The movements help activate the energy meridians of the body.  Focused on the concept of chi (the energy that flows through your body) this wonderful art form efficiently uses oxygen for better endurance and retraining the body.

When chi is stimulated in the body it produces heat that penetrates into the bones.  This gives us stamina, vitality and pliability.  Chi follows a circular path at the tan-tien or energy center of the lower abdomen and moves outward through the palm of the hands and then returns to the center.

Tai chi gives us better emotional control, greater sexual stamina, a decreased need for sleep and a decreased need or desire for food intake.  Tai chi results in inner calmness, better coordination and balance, increased strength and flexibility, less fatigue and greater resilience.  People who have cardiovascular disease, mental disorders, arthritis, multiple sclerosis, fibromyalgia, respiratory disease and mnay chronic disorders have found relieve through regular Tai Chi excericise.

So where can one find a tai chi class you may ask?  I typed tai chi in google and came up with many classes in my area.  Atlanta has an amazing list of reputable schools.  You can also order a dvd and do it in the comfort of your own home.   A couple of my faves are:

Andrea’s heated neck pillow of the week

mothers day neckpillows 0025 Andreas heated neck pillow of the week Throughout my years of massage, I have used and suggested heated neck pillows.

If your neck is tight, heat the pillow up in the microwave for 2 minutes and place around your neck.  The heat will help melt the muscle which in turn allows you to get a better stretch after.

Unfortunately, I found that many neck pillows available are thin and poorly made.  So I decided to make my own.  These neck pillows are filled with rice, cinnamon, clove and allspice.  They are very thick so they hold heat longer than the average pillow on the market.

The above pillow is great for Mother’s Day and one of the best sellers.

All pillows have a 30 day money back guarantee.

Name that pain

As a massage therapist, I hear many complaints of sore muscles.  The one I hear the most is, “I think I pulled a muscle.”  How does one know if they pulled a muscle or if it is something more?  Below is a list of common injuries, the cause and how to care for and prevent it in the future.

A strain(pulled muscle) is when a muscle or ligament is overstretched or forced to contract against too much resistance.  This causes separation or tearing of the muscle fibers.  There are three grades of strain:

  • Grade 1 is where some muscle fibers have been stretched or torn.  You will feel slight tenderness and pain on active motion.  Movement is painful, but you can achieve full range of motion.
  • Grade 2 is when you have torn several muscle fibers.  Active contraction of the muscle is very painful.  You will usually feel a depression in the muscle belly where the fibers are torn.  You may have broken capillaries and some swelling.
  • Grade 3 is when you completely rupture the muscle.  You will have very little movement or none at all.  The pain will be intense but will dissipate due to nerve fiber separation.  This normally occurs in the bicep tendon or Achilles.

Muscle strains take quite a long time to heal.  They normally happen in the hamstring or quadriceps and the healing process can take up to 8 weeks.

A sprain is damage to a ligament typically at a joint.  If a joint is forced beyond the normal limit then injury may occur.  There are three types of sprain:

  • Grade 1 is when there is some stretching and separation of the ligament fibers.  You can expect mild to moderate pain, localized swelling and stiffness of the joint.
  • Grade 2 is when thee is some tearing and separation of the ligament fibers.  The joint will be stiff, moderate to severe pain and swelling.
  • Grade 3 is complete tearing of the ligament.  The pain will be severe but dull over time due to nerve damage.  There will be massive swelling and the joint becomes stiff.

In all three cases, the join has become unstable.  In order to restore stability to the joint, the surrounding muscles and tendons must be strengthened.  Strength training is the way to go here.

Muscle Cramps are involuntary contractions of the muscle that typically occur  in the calf, abs or hamstrings.  They are usually quite painful.  Often they are a direct result of dehydration or lack of minerals(sodium, chloride, potassium, magnesium or calcium.)  Obviously you want to rehydrate and up your vitamins.

I have a client who has had cramps his entire life.  He just started taking a multi-vitamin with the emphasis on the B-6.  His cramps have completely diminished.

Muscle Soreness typically happens when one overexerts themselves in a strenuous exercise.  There are two types of muscle soreness:

  • Acute-Onset Muscle Soreness occurs during and immediately after exercise.  This comes from fatigued muscles.
  • Delayed-Onset Muscle Soreness appears approximately 12 hours after injury.  It lasts 24-48 hrs and gradually subsides so the person is pain free in 3-4 days.

Basically, you wrote a check your body couldn’t cash.  You need to start an exercise routine that is moderate in nature and gradually work on the intensity.

The human body is amazing.  When you take care of your body, it WILL take care of you.  Healthy muscles and joints bounce back quicker than those that are not healthy.  Eat properly, stretch and work out.  Your body will thank you.
